Hidden disruptions in metabolic syndrome: drug-induced nutrient depletion as a pathway to accelerated pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome.

چکیده
One of the potential challenges facing healthcare professionals today is the problem of druginduced disease. With polypharmacy prescribing occurring in younger and younger populations, it is becoming increasingly important to assess nutrient depletion risks as they relate to future symptoms, conditions, or progression of disease. James B. LaValle, RPh, MS, ND, CCN, is co-founder of the Living Longer Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio, and an adjunct professor of pharmacy practice at the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy.

Diet-induced metabolic syndrome model in rats
Background & Objective: Risk for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke increases with the number of the metabolic risk factors. In general, a person who has the metabolic syndrome is twice as likely to develop heart disease and five times as likely to develop diabetes as someone who does not have the metabolic syndrome. High-calorie-diet rodent models have contributed significantly to the analysi...
متن کاملTroxerutin Chronic Treatment Protects against Fructose-induced Metabolic Syndrome in Male Rats
Background and Aims: Metabolic syndrome, a common metabolic disorder, for the serious health consequences such as insulin resistance and lipid abnormalities has been considered as a major clinical challenge with obscure causes. Oxidative stress is an important component of metabolic syndrome, contributing in its development. Troxerutin, a semi-synthetic derivative of natural bioflavonoid rutin,...
متن کاملProtective effect of curcumin in fructose-induced metabolic syndrome and in streptozotocin-induced diabetes in rats
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of pre-treatment with curcumin on metabolic changes induced by two different pathophysiological mechanisms in rats (fructose diet and streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes mellitus). Materials and Methods: Five groups with 10 rats per group were investigated: control group (healthy rats), fructose diet groups without any pre-treatme...
متن کاملA Review of Neck Circumference As a Potent Anthropometric Predictor of Cardiovascular Disease and Metabolic Syndrome
Introduction: Obesity is considered to be a major risk factor for metabolic syndrome (MetS). The present study aimed to investigate the associations of neck circumference (NC) with cardiovascular diseases and MetS in adults. Methods: This review was conducted via searching in databases such as Medline, PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar using various keywords, ...
متن کاملPathophysiologic mechanisms of obesity- and chronic inflammation-related genes in etiology of polycystic ovary syndrome
